ABSTRACT

The coronavirus pandemic has taken multiple directions and has been sharpened by the many existential questions and emotional circumstances posed by any major infectious disease. On January 28, 2020, the Bavarian Ministry of Health reported the first COVID-19 case in Germany. The patient, in the Upper Bavarian district of Starnberg, was medically monitored, housed in isolation and later reported to be in good clinical condition. Restaurants, bars, cinemas, museums, concert halls, gyms, swimming pools, non-essential shops, schools, universities, and workplaces were shut down, and a ban was placed on groups of more than two people meeting in public. Fact-checking is therefore not straightforward but needs the guidance of various experts to explain the facts on the basis of which the decisions are made and what are the alternatives, especially when these differ among (federal) governments.
