ABSTRACT

The parodos is the opening of a standard Greek drama. This parodos touches on the main motifs of the dramatic action that the ensuing main chapters of the book will unfold. It does basically two things: (1) it introduces the main thematic components of esoteric writing, Sophists and sophistries, the way that Plato employs lies, and addresses possible conspiracies in and about Plato’s works; and (2) it introduces the basic content of the book chapters one by one, to give an overview of the scope of the book as a whole, in terms of the thematic components sketched in (1).
