Introducing the four pillars of ESP

This chapter first introduces the four ‘pillars’ of the ESP approach: needs analysis, learning objectives, materials and methods, and evaluation. Next, it discusses how the four pillars of ESP support a learning environment in which learners, instructors, and administrators interact and collaborate in sometimes unique ways to meet the aims of ESP courses and programs. Then, the chapter discusses the contentious issue of who can and should teach ESP within this framework.
