ABSTRACT

In this context-setting chapter I define psychosynthesis coaching and describe how it is different from other coaching approaches. I introduce a dynamic practitioner framework as a more nuanced way of reflecting upon coaching practice. I then introduce the concept of coaching the being and how this contrasts with most coaching approaches that are concerned with coaching doing or behaviour.

This is set within the context of a brief overview of coaching and how it is developing as a profession. I touch upon the key distinctions in coaching: between coaching activity and the coaching profession; between life and leadership or organisational or executive coaching; between external and internal organisational coaching; between specialist coaches and leaders as coaches.
