ABSTRACT
In previous chapters we have learnt where people get their values and beliefs, and their cul-
ture, but also that we are unique and individual people. There has also been discussion that
ethical or moral problems can arise when health professionals just assume that the way they
want to do something is ethically right and correct. Never has this been more so than with
health professionals with a Western philosophical view point, who wrongly believe that
theirs is the only perspective to consider. This lack of cultural sensitivity and disrespect of
other traditions seriously impairs a therapeutic relationship between the client or patient
and the health professional, but also destroys the client’s or patient’s trust and faith in the
professional’s ability.
