ABSTRACT

The sustainable approach to urban bioregionalism is city regeneration, by means of the requalification of the square that will allow the daily as well as the nightly use of the place. Following a change of the primary function of the Mercato Square in Naples, and a subsequent abandonment by the users of the external areas, as well as of the existing and important historic buildings, the square has been subjected to long-term neglect. The project previews the insertion, within the square, of a number of so-called all-around kiosks. The square, Vittorio Emanuele II, in Sant'Antonio Abate, which is surrounded by municipality offices, a modern church, a few buildings with some shops, and a bus stop, has been the object of an urban program by the Town Hall administration. The approach of the project has been that of the bioregionalist regeneration, by means of preparing the square to host future activities rather than by means of edifying new constructed elements.
