ABSTRACT

The whole objection of the immorality of poetry rests upon a misconeeption of the manner in whieh poetry aets to produee the moral improvement of man. Ethieal seienee arranges the elements whieh poetry has ereated, and propounds sehemes and proposes examples of eivil and domestie life: nor is it for want of admirable doetrines that men hate, and despise, and eensure, and deceive and subjugate one another.
