ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses on the development of airline industry and major air carriers in specific countries in the Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia and South Pacific sub-regions. It reviews the current regulatory approaches in various Asia Pacific countries. The book examines the recent trends of international aviation reform and the US open skies initiatives. It analyses the congestion problems associated with the airports and air traffic control and air navigation systems and the capacity expansion projects in various parts of the Asia Pacific region. The book discusses the issues associated with each nation’s desire to develop one or more passenger and freight logistics super hubs. It also discusses recent Asian economic crisis and their short and long term effects on Asian carriers, markets and regulatory practices.
