ABSTRACT

In the earlier research the amalgamated ex-pupils gave a slightly lower estimate for the friendliness of their teachers than did those seniors who were in the other co-educational schools. With regard to discipline there was little difference between the two groups of women, but the men from amalgamated schools provided a much larger proportion of the three 'lax discipline' categories than was warranted by their proportion in the total sample of students from 'co-educational last' schools. After the survey of pupil-teacher relations followed by the more general 'school atmosphere', researchers now come to an examination of pupil-pupil relationships, still comparing amalgamated with the normal type of co-educational school. The women from the amalgamated schools produced a distribution of judgments which was almost identical to that of the women who were seniors in other co-educational schools.
