ABSTRACT

This chapter extols the virtues of formative assessment and formative feedback as powerful learning tools, but also emphasises that such tools need to be relevant, considered, and carefully designed in order to maximise student engagement and student benefit in participation. The chapter takes a step back to set out a series of key considerations for educators based on the insights and evidence captured throughout this volume. The chapter then moves to look forward, discussing the role of formative assessment and feedback in the context of key developments in the area of assessment change. The chapter concludes with an indication of further work and opportunities for you to take your interest in formative assessment and formative feedback forward.
