ABSTRACT
31% of the families in the middle class sample had only one child at the time of the interview. 48% had two children, 21% had three. There were no families with more than three children. However, by no means all the families were complete. 4% of the sample wanted five or more children, and 21% intended to have four children. But 73% wanted to restrict their families to two or three children.
