ABSTRACT
Now that comments have been made about the spelling of isiXhosa, based on the selected isiXhosa texts mentioned in Chapter 3, the focus of this book will shift to a discussion of various other problematic aspects of isiXhosa orthography, based on identification of these matters in the same isiXhosa documents. In the process, some aspects which did not receive attention in Chapters 3 and 4 will be examined, namely concord usage, hyphen usage, word division, the use of capital letters versus lower casing, apostrophe usage, tone marking, the principle of conjunctive versus disjunctive writing and abbreviations. Where possible, each and every discussion of these aspects of isiXhosa orthography will draw on a theoretical framework that is relevant to that particular aspect.
