ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides the foundation for higher education, especially student affairs in history and law. It introduces and describes the Institutional Intelligence Model and offers tools to help understand specific work environments. The book focuses on student and academic affairs units. It also provides a brief summary of the Institutional Intelligence Model. The book helps practitioners identify other individuals on and beyond campus who need information, may be impacted, or can assist as events unfold. It focuses on institutional type, location, culture, and history. The book focuses on the relationships between academic advisors, coaches, and other academic success staff and the students they serve. It highlights the unique position of graduate students as both employees and students.
