ABSTRACT

At the centre of SCIP Intervention are the people who are involved in the long-term support of the child. These are the parents and family members as well as teachers and associated support staff. In this chapter, the role of sharing knowledge and developing shared goals in SCIP is explored as a means of grounding intervention and support in preferred, meaningful outcomes. Research involving shared goal setting and evaluation is described and exemplified. A new method for involving the child in evaluating self-progress and setting personal goals is presented. Parents’, teachers’, and speech-language practitioners’ perceptions of SCIP as an intervention are reported. Practitioners’ reflections on delivery of SCIP and training requirements are reported. The chapter ends with suggestions on how to incorporate these sorts of evaluations into each child's care.
