ABSTRACT

The self is a self-defending system of habits over against other such systems. It is essentially separatist in relation to these other systems. Amongst victories of the Enemy, or defeated conversions or arrested revolutions, we may reckon, on the vast theatre of war which is the cosmos, all the stages in evolution which have produced the different natural kingdoms, orders and species. Heaven is by some said to be that which can only be attained after the death of the body and not merely the death of the self, and this is generally interpreted to mean that it is useless and even sinful to expect in our lifetime the complete cure of the disease which is the larger self. The word of God is the same as the act of God, the pure act or miracle, the missionary act which by propagating health and love bears witness to its source, health and love.
