ABSTRACT

SLTs have a responsibility to keep up to date with evidence-based practice. This chapter provides some suggestions for sources of information and inspiration in AAC practice. Regional specialised AAC assessment services are commissioned to provide training and support for local services. This may take the form of face-to-face or remote training, or eLearning modules. These may be free or chargeable. Communication Matters has an AAC Forum for AAC users, families and professionals, where people post queries about AAC solutions and interventions. This is a great way to ask clinical questions and share ideas. A UK-specific book is the author's Who's Afraid of AAC?: The UK Guide to Augmentative and Alternative Communication. This is an in-depth practical guide for assessment and implementation across the lifespan, intended for parents and carers as well as health, education and social care professionals.
