ABSTRACT

This chapter could easily be a “stand alone” series of essays for parents and future parents about the importance of getting your own life in order if you hope to become a successful parent and raise resilient kids. In other words, parents and future parents must do some preliminary “work in the psychological gym” before you can expect to help coach and promote you own kids to become well-adjusted, likeable, socially intelligent, and resilient kids! The chapter introduces ten rules and guidelines—what I call, Grandma’s Rules . These are rules that promote a quality adult life that parents have found particularly helpful and important in becoming comfortable “in their own skin” and effective parents. Please take your time reading the lessons in this chapter.
