ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the contributions of the book, highlights the contributions and findings, and presents directions for future research. This book presents the first comprehensive analysis of factors that contribute to corruption using three decades of municipal data and delving deep into the intricate web of municipal corruption. Causal factors of municipal corruption are many and they are interrelated. The primary finding in this book is that the council-manager form of government offers some protection from corrupt acts. However, it is not a guarantee against corruption. This chapter describes actions being taken around the country to protect local governments from corruption.
