ABSTRACT

This chapter documents some of the advantages of using system dynamics software such as Vensim, Stella, iThink and Powersim for developing co-evolutionary models. System dynamics modelling software are ideal for co-evolutionary models since system dynamics models is a class of mathematical models that incorporates feedback. The steps in developing a mathematical model for environmental change using the system dynamics modelling platform is given here. A number of further issues are also discussed, including obtaining data for the model and criticisms of the Lotka–Volterra model. Tools for model validation using the system dynamics modelling methodology are also presented. Utilising system dynamics as a tool for machine learning is also discussed.
