Module Number and Title – Module 11: Forgiveness

Module 11 of compassion focused therapy (CFT) for groups focuses on compassion for others and, particularly, forgiveness. In this module, the participant workbook focuses on having compassion for others, including individuals for whom it is difficult to have compassion. The workbook discusses the concept of forgiveness, not as approving of or condoning behavior, but as moving away from feelings of vengeance and towards compassionate wishes. The workbook contrasts empathy from sympathy and identifies empathy as an important part of forgiveness. The workbook provides group members with exercises to explore being compassionate to others and describes how people can benefit from having compassion for others.
