ABSTRACT

This chapter examines two pseudotranslation novels—2666 by Roberto Bolaño and Traveler of the Century by Andrés Neuman—pondering their use of translation as a narrative genesis device and “translatese” as their literary language of mistranslation. Written as if they were translations, these novels blur the lines between writing and translating by posing translating as writing. Including other works that engage with issues of originality and translatability, this final chapter approaches the contemporary Latin American global novel in and on translation.
