ABSTRACT

Using Mikhail Bakhtin’s concept of chronotope, this chapter explores how streaming media created by Netflix for youth is shifting how time is experienced both within the shows themselves and in how the shows are accessed. Time is both compressed and expanded in children’s viewing habits, and this shift in time creates particular expectations from children and teens about how they will consume streaming media. Streaming media children, then, are encouraged to become impatient binge-watchers who expect programming to be accessible and catered to their interests at any age.
