ABSTRACT

Meals are an important part of multi-family therapy for anorexia nervosa. They are a powerful way of helping young people and their families in a very practical manner at one of the most difficult times of the day. It is also a good opportunity for young people and their families to learn practical tips, in real time, from each other. This chapter discusses all aspects of multi-family therapy meals, offering clinicians practical guidance on how to most effectively facilitate multi-family mealtimes. This includes descriptions of the different ways clinicians may approach and problem-solve mealtimes as well as step-by-step guidance on setting up meals, supporting families during meals and any feedback needed.
