ABSTRACT
The director is critical. This chapter introduces a series of chapters which explore, in depth, the director’s role, sensibilities and aesthetic responsibilities. Beginning with illusionism as the director’s art, the chapter also covers script aesthetics, informational clarity, character roles, plot and tone.
