ABSTRACT

This chapter explores a short story by the Argentine author Samanta Schweblin which concerns two retired circus performers. The included exercises invite reflection and discussion on ageing and the passage of time. Grammar points cover some uses of prepositions with verbs and discrimination of the imperfect and the preterite, as well as the uses of pronominal verbs, calling attention to the particular case of quedar and quedarse. Production exercises ask for writing a narrative continuing the story and the formulation of questions to a celebrity or acquaintance about their past life and achievements.
