ABSTRACT

It’s a warm summer day in 2013. I’m outside the courthouse in Downtown Chicago. It’s Flag Day. I’m standing with about a hundred people around me. Around us, hundreds more are cheering and crying. The hundred people standing with me are all holding their hands over their hearts. We are about to recite an oath. We are about to become American citizens. It was then, and it still is today, one of the happiest days of my entire life.
