ABSTRACT
This chapter argues that progress in science centrally involves—the value of science lies mainly in—what it enables us to understand about and do with observable things. In line with the more detailed treatment of understanding in Chapter 5, it maintains that accurate representations of unobservable things are not required to achieve understanding of the phenomena.
