ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 introduces the themes of the book. It begins by exploring an initial theoretical provocation: that archaeology needs to develop an approach to the past that is posthumanist. From there it maps a brief history of archaeological thought, to trace the emergence of this perspective and then introduces the specific Deleuzian approach that the volume advocates. The chapter then turns to the archaeological material that forms the heart of the argument – Neolithic Britain – before finally sketching out the structure of the rest of the book.
