ABSTRACT
Perhaps the most difficult of all walks and the least talked about are quadruped walks. Here all the challenges of bipedal walks are intensified several-fold; not only is there another pair of legs to contend with, but the synchronization of those legs often varies from creature to creature, species to species. Additionally the size, weight, and bulk of that creature will be a factor in the way it walks. For example, a Gecko lizard will clearly walk very differently from a thoroughbred horse. A long and rangy giraffe will need to be approached in a very different way from that of a ground-hugging burrowing critter such as a mole. Add to the mix the fact that you also have to deal with head and tail movements—whether it’s a cartoon-style quadruped or a naturalistic one—the enormity of the challenge is exponentially magnified!
