ABSTRACT

There are many paired talk tasks that can enhance understanding and pupil engagement in your lessons. Having a large repertoire of smaller talk tasks at your fingertips will make you a versatile and adaptable teacher and ensure that good learning takes place in your lessons. It will mean that you can plan lessons adjusted to the needs of your audience – the pupils – and that they will gain more confidence as learners. You will always be able to think of something to do if you finish early and you will find that you can quickly adapt a cover lesson that has been very formally planned – where, for example, the pupils have been asked to draw a diagram and make notes – by adding a talk task to make it more fun for the pupils.
