ABSTRACT

Teachers who ‘do’ Intensive Interaction in schools in England and Wales inevitably also ‘do’ the National Curriculum. How they put the two together, however, varies considerably. Combining them is a source of much anxiety and much creativity. It is something that we are asked about often. Our response here is not to give a directive answer about how Intensive Interaction and the National Curriculum are best put together. This book is intended to support and guide and give ideas, but not to be prescriptive. Instead we air some of the issues, debate some of the options and ultimately make a case for the place of Intensive Interaction in the curriculum. Readers outside England and Wales may be tempted to skip this chapter, but there are wider curriculum issues that will be of interest to readers without the National Curriculum.
