ABSTRACT

Nowadays, manufacturers usually provide buyers with written statements guaranteeing the integrity of products they manufacture. The responsibilities of the manufacturers are outlined by these statements in situations when the product happened to be defective. There are several reasons for manufacturers to provide warranties on their industrial products. According to a survey of 369 producers of industrial products [I], the primary reasons were to support company products, to define liabilities and responsibilities specifically, to meet competitive need, etc. This survey has also revealed that the average cost for servicing warranty claims is below 2 percent of a product's selling price. And servicing and repairing of products under warranty may account from a fraction of I percent to more than 10 percent of the net sales of a manufacturer. The sales volumes of manufacturers studied varied from under $10 million to over $100 million. In addition, the companies surveyed manufactured products such as electrical and communications products, scientific equipment and control products, and business and commercial equipment.
