ABSTRACT
The induction of a general anaesthetic should bring the patient from an alert and conscious state to one in which the patient is completely unaware of sensory
stimuli and is unable to create new memories. This should be achieved rapidly, calmly and painlessly, the patient’s safety remaining paramount throughout the procedure.
