ABSTRACT

The design and implementation of auditory warnings systems has received a significant amount of attention over the last few years. There are many human factors and ergonomic aspects of such systems requiring attention, but this paper focuses on the issue of perceived urgency of sound, a topic which our research group has researched in detail over the last few years (Hellier and Edworthy (1989); Edworthy and Loxley (1990); Edworthy et al., (1991)).
