ABSTRACT

Sediment characterization plays an important role in many projects. These projects have been carried out for a wide variety of reasons, such as testing of scientific hypotheses, survey of environmental conditions, evaluation of fish habitats, or construction involving sediment removal or displacement. Ade quate and representative characterization is a function of both sample collection and analyses. No matter how much care is taken in laboratory analyses, such factors as improperly located sampling sites, collection of inadequate number or quality of samples, and inappropriate sample handling can generate false information on sediment properties.
