ABSTRACT

An indoor air quality investigator must identify and solve indoor air quality complaints in a way that prevents a recurrence, not create other problems. Poorly researched investigations are doomed to recur!

Immediately upon completion of a preliminary investigation, the environmental professional should compile and simplify all information. Otherwise, he or she may become overwhelmed and not be able to see the forest through the trees.

The building and occupant assessments should be critically reviewed and a hypothesis developed. The hypothesis may involve one or several sources of indoor air pollution, and it may be complicated by the existence of one or several disassociated areas.
