ABSTRACT

Data is the new oil – at least, that’s what many PowerPoint slides say. Whether the analogy between data and oil is correct is debatable. The Internet, which had just become popular thanks to the World Wide Web, fueled the imagination of investors, so that money was also invested in ideas for which the infrastructure at the time was not yet mature. Today, it is impossible to imagine life without it. The possibilities for capturing and processing data have changed rapidly since the early days of electronic data processing. Data analysis is already hard enough for some, and then to get an introduction to programming. According to the Harvard Business Review, the job of a Data Scientist is “the sexiest job of the 21st century”. In the age of data, it is the Data Scientists who can handle the huge masses of data, find patterns in it and advise senior management on what to do next.
