ABSTRACT

The author was on his way home from San Francisco, having just attended the 2009 Game Developers Conference. Suddenly, his phone began to vibrate. It was a number from Canada. He had no idea what Avatar meant. But he definitely knew about James Cameron. Any possibility of working with one of Hollywood’s most successful and innovative directors was an opportunity to be seized with vigor. Most pitch packages contain a detailed overview of the game design, plus video capture, screenshots, and other relevant goodies. The all-nighter was a success and the demo came together just before dawn. Off it went to Montreal, into the infamous and indeterminate black hole of anxious waiting, which every pitching composer knows all too well.
