ABSTRACT

The main difference between raspberries and blackberries is in the way the fruit separates from the stem at the time of harvest. The raspberry loosens from the core, also known as the torus or receptacle, leaving it on the plant when harvested. This gives a fruit that is thimble-shaped with a hollow center (Figure 2-1). The blackberry, on the other hand, loosens at the base of the receptacle so the harvested fruit includes the receptacle as an integral part of it. Raspberries loosen from the receptacle when ripe forming a thimble-like fruit. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9780429259166/6dc88f75-56d3-4204-80f5-a231b19e8f59/content/fig2_1.jpg" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/>
