ABSTRACT

Now that the observations and estimations are completed, it is time to begin an analysis of the facts. This step is also known as step A (for analysis). The procedure is similar to that followed by a detective at the scene of a crime — that is, checking for fingerprints and footprints, inspecting broken windows and other objects, and examining fragments left by the criminal. It can also be compared to the way in which a doctor investigates a disease — by checking the patient’s blood pressure and examining X-ray images, brain waves, and so on.
