ABSTRACT

5.a.1. Berman, M. L., Significance of enzyme induction to clinical anesthesia, Metabolic Aspects Anesthesia, 11, 93—102, 1975. Smokers require greater amounts of anesthetic, e.g., pentazocine, diazepam, and chlordiazepoxide to produce depression than nonsmokers. Benzopyrene in cigarette smoke may cause enzyme induction resulting in increased metabolic rate.
