ABSTRACT

My oldest son, Daniel, is a ba’al teshuvah, a secular Jew who embraced Orthodox Judaism. One day while visiting him in Jerusalem I brewed him a cup of tea. We sat and talked but after half an hour I saw that he wasn’t drinking his tea. “Has it gotten cold?” I asked eagerly. “I can heat it up for you.” “Oh, no,” he said. “Perhaps it’s still too hot? I can add cold water,” I added reassuringly. “No, really,” he said. Still the level of tea didn’t decline. “Then what is it?” I asked in bewilderment.
