ABSTRACT

This is the text of a special report issued in November 1958 by the Homosexual Law Reform Society of London, which had been formed to support the recommendations of the Wolfenden Commission (actually the Committee on Homosexual Offenses and Prostitution, chaired by Lord Wolfenden) on the liberalizing of British sex laws. These recommendations were subsequently given a one-day debate in Parliament a few days after the appearance of this report, with no action being taken. The report is invaluable for the detail it offers as to the actions taken in support of homosexual civil rights at this time in Great Britain and the activist strategies being pursued. Eustace Chesser's book, mentioned in the report, bears the subtitle “The Moral of the Wolfenden Report,” while the society's pamphlet, also mentioned in the report, is subtitled “An Examination of This Human Problem.”
