ABSTRACT

Criminal investigation into sexual abuse is challenging because of the already known difficulties in providing proof of evidence. These difficulties are determined by the characteristics of the phenomenon itself: large numbers of victims (especially child victims), absence of material evidence, and the lack of witnesses (UNICEF and UDP, 2006; Navarro, 2011). This is why, in these cases, the victims are such crucial witnesses for the legal system, and the ultimate success of the investigation depends heavily on the information provided by them (Powell et al., 2005; Navarro et al., 2012).
