ABSTRACT

The first half of this letter is devoted to Peninsular affairs and to Wordsworth’s pamphlet on The Convention of Cintra. The second half, which is printed here, contains the germ of Wordsworth’s arrangement of his shorter poems into related groups which he made in the edition of 1815 and defended in the Preface to that edition (No. 11 below). The manuscript of this letter is in the Wordsworth Library, Grasmere; my text is from M., i. 331, 334–6.
