ABSTRACT

Evidently a reply to a report from Lady Beaumont, wife of Wordsworth’s friend and patron Sir George Beaumont, on the reception of Wordsworth’s Poems, in Two Volumes (1807) by London society and by individuals. It anticipates several of the arguments of the Preface of 1815 and its Essay, Supplementary. The manuscript of this letter is in the Pierpont Morgan Library; my text is from MY, i. 145–51.
