ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the rationale for the involvement of severely disabled users within the design process and the impact that such partnerships can have on both users and designers and on the final design outcomes. An area less explored in inclusive design literature is partnerships between designers and older and disabled people. Corporate Edge have implemented the strategies internally and now run their projects differently with dyslexic and non-dyslexic designers alike. The major design element of the re-designed pan is an ergonomic two-part handle with a fuller cross-section to assist grip, which is angled downwards for intuitive use. Design research is very important and even more so when the information is proactively used and concepts manifest into real life product designs. The Design Business Association (DBA) Inclusive Design Challenge has proved effective in alerting the professional design community to inclusive design principles.
