ABSTRACT

One of the most important branches of the department work continues to be the installation of water meters under the provisions of the Metropolitan Water Act. Some of our neighboring cities have finished the metering of all their services, and find, as a result of the consequent diminution in consumption of water, that the entire expense of their meter installation has been offset by the reduction in their state water assessment. It is pleasing to note a gradual dropping in the daily consumption of water in our own city, per capita figure for the year being 80, a decrease of four gallons from that of the previous year, and the lowest on record for this city. This is, no doubt, attributable to the increasing meter installation, which tends to reduce the water waste.
