ABSTRACT

Technology is utilized in every aspect of the assessment cycle. Those coordinating student affairs assessment must be proficient in using technology as well as navigating technology systems and structures within the larger institutional context. This chapter focuses on two key aspects where technology and assessment intersect. The first aspect, data security and privacy, explores the foundations of these concepts and their role in accessing data and keeping data secure throughout the assessment process. The second aspect, evaluating and implementing technology, outlines the key steps needed to determine when new technology is needed, how to evaluate possible new tools and/or determine if current tools can be used and finally how to structure an implementation team.
