ABSTRACT
Strategy, policies and practices for carbon/greenhouse gas (GHG) management are key to achieving a Net Zero future and mitigating the challenges of climate change for a low-carbon and sustainable economy. This chapter supports managers in designing relevant strategy, policies and practices for the effective implementation of GHG management – in any sector. It suggests a planned approach through all hierarchy levels from ‘elimination’ to ‘compensation’ to reduce GHG emissions. ‘Carbon offsetting’ as a concept is also discussed and evaluated, for organisations with residual emissions to become Carbon Neutral or Net Zero. Example policies are presented, which can easily be replicated or adapted for any organisation. This chapter concludes with a list of Quick Wins for managers who want to get started on this journey, as well as suggested Further Resources.
